Refreshing that the manager's post match comments were not all about how he had out-tacticted Wenger.

Yep. It was interesting to see how narrowly we defended: seemed fairly content to let them play wide and to the edge of the box but squeezed them out of any really clear cut chances: a couple of decent interventions by Tomkins and Nolan and Adrian on the case once or twice was about it. Everyone in the shirt put in a real shift: was proud of the whole team, and it's been awhile since I've felt that!

As for 'the Bilic detractors' - he wasn't my first choice (or even second) but he's here and has had a good start in the PL. He's now WHU and like all managers and players he'll have my support: and I'll retain the right to criticise or praise as performances deserve.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching yesterday, but still - and will always - believe he could have fielded a stronger team last Thursday: if for no other reason than that a bunch of Irons spent they're hard-earned travelling to support our team. And would have liked to have done so again.

To be honest, I don't think there have been (m)any Bilic detractors. Several people have moaned about going out of the Europa and some have said he wasn't their first choice. But nothing - and I mean nothing - on the scale of the anti-BFS fervour.

Well summed up. Allardyce is finished at the top level of football now. A disgusting bitter man who is now well out of his depth in todays game

Nothing like a good old told you so thread.

I wonder who's going to pop up with another one when we lose.

Football being played on the floor with accurate passing too? why didn't the club think about this method sooner, oh, now I remember! well done Slaven & the lads.

Re: To all the Bilic detractors - this way out please....
I have to say I disagree that we defended like an Allardyce team today. We manned the defences in numbers but instead of putting everyone behind the ball after going 1-0 up and parking the bus, we didn't just hoof it down field and let them try another attack.

As soon as we gained possession in defence we played it to feet and attacked in numbers. This meant that Arsenal couldn't commit every player forward as we still posed a goal threat at their end. Under Allardyce we posed almost no threat and they could lay siege to our final third.

As Bilic said, we defended in numbers but we also attacked in numbers. Simple, a bit more risk but a much better reward. It was also infinitely better to watch.

You just know that Allardyce is GUTTED we won today and in such a manner. It's all you need to know about a bloke who managed us for four seasons and earned a shit-load of money doing it.

Just how much would he love to go on talkshite with his cronies and regale us with his superior tactical nous about our kamakazi football and how it will never beat the top teams.

It's one match.

Moaning about the manager is just as cringey as bigging him up.

Calm down.

Whatever anyone may think about Bilic

We are all Individuals we do not all think the same, and although I agree it is ridiculous starting so soon having a moan at our very new manager some who saw what happened in Europe have the right to be frustrated.

Personally I did not give two hoots about Europe debacle but the poor sods who travelled and some who just wanted West Ham to do better than they did and wanted to see more effort better players etc have every right to vent their frustrations.

Let us all be one its too soon to begin the divisive dance that we all normally do around the middle of the season.

Just wanna say Bilic was the best we could get and we must all get behind him for at least a season or so whatever the outcome.

The best managers have always built their sides with a strong defence, the difference with BFS was he couldn't bring it on himself to actually try and win a match. His obsession with defence was the be all and end all.

Re: To all the Bilic detractors - this way out please....
At no point were we pushed into an Allardyce-style 9 man defence plus a very lonely forward, despite being up against a good side dying to send out signals to the rest of the title hopefuls.

We always had a discernible midfield.
